Obuasi Mine Advances Education Access with Donation of Over 12,500 Textbooks

AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine has reinforced its commitment to education in its host communities through the donation of more than 12,500 NaCCA-approved textbooks to public basic schools. The latest contribution brings the cumulative number of textbooks distributed by Mine to over 180,000.

The textbooks were presented to the Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipal Education Directorates during an event held in Obuasi to commemorate the International Day of Education.

The event, organised by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation with support from AngloGold Ashanti, was held under the theme “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education” and highlighted the role of young people in shaping inclusive and sustainable education systems.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Mr Daniel Arthur-Bentum, noted that the theme aligns with the Mine’s youth-focused interventions under its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan. These include the Obuasi Robotics Centre, commissioned in July 2025, and the Community Scholarship Scheme, which awarded scholarships to 20 students in November 2025.

The Administrator of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Miss Elaine Oppong Peprah, underscored the importance of youth participation in national development, particularly within the education sector.

AngloGold Ashanti’s continued partnership with the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation reflects its commitment to improving access to quality education, strengthening literacy outcomes, and supporting long-term socio-economic development in its host communities.
