AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine marked the 2026 celebration of International Women’s Day with an insightful ‘EmpowerHer’ Conference for employees, followed by a Dinner and Awards Night in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The activities formed part of the mine’s efforts to recognize the contributions of women in the workplace and promote gender inclusion across its operations and host communities.
The EmpowerHer Conference brought together female employees and leaders across the company’s departments to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore strategies to strengthen women’s leadership and participation in the mining industry. The conference also created a platform for mentorship, dialogue, and inspiration among women within the organization.
It emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women to grow, lead, and thrive in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
As part of the celebrations, the mine also hosted a Dinner and Awards Night at the AGA School Park to honour women and allies who have made remarkable contributions in areas such as education, entrepreneurship, professional excellence, and community service.
The event attracted employees, community leaders, partners, and stakeholders from across the municipality.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of AGA Obuasi Mine, Ing. Samuel Boakye Pobee, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive growth, stressing that both men and women deserve equal opportunities to excel in their professions.
Awards were presented to 28 outstanding individuals across nine categories, including female employees, women-led businesses, students, community leaders, and public service professionals, highlighting the achievements of women and the importance of investing in their potential.
The celebration reflected AGA Obuasi Mine’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and women’s advancement in mining and community development, while inspiring the next generation of women to pursue leadership and professional excellence.
