The Obuasi Mine has commissioned the Apitikooko Health Centre and Staff Quarters and the Dokyiwa/Binsere Health Centre under the 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), reaffirming its commitment to improving healthcare access in its host communities.
The two facilities, valued at approximately GH¢6.8 million, will enhance primary healthcare delivery, including maternal and child health, outpatient services and emergency care for thousands of residents. The Apitikooko staff quarters is also expected to help attract and retain healthcare professionals, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of quality healthcare services.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director, Ing. Samuel Boakye Pobee, said the projects reflect AngloGold Ashanti’s purpose of mining to empower people and advance societies. He indicated that the projects complement other key interventions of the Mine, including the rehabilitation of the Anyinam Health Centre, the ongoing construction of the Akaporiso Model Health Centre and the quarterly Mini Clinic outreach programme.
Key dignitaries, including the representative of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Sylvester Agyapong, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, and Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, Dompoasehene, commended AngloGold Ashanti for its transformational investment in the beneficiary communities, describing the facilities as a major boost to primary healthcare delivery in the Obuasi enclave.
