The Obuasi Mine has once again reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and innovation following the successful hosting of the maiden STEM Bootcamp in Obuasi. The initiative builds on the establishment of the first-ever Robotics Training Centre in Obuasi by the mine, highlighting the company’s ongoing investment in education, particularly in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within the region.
Guided by the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), the 5-day bootcamp provided hands-on training for Primary 4 to JHS 2 students in coding, robotics, electronics, 3D design, and problem-solving, while also strengthening their communication skills.
At the grand finale, 36 pupils from eight basic school STEM clubs across the Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipalities showcased innovative projects developed during the training, drawing admiration from traditional leaders, education stakeholders, parents, and community members.
Speaking at the event, the Community Relations Manager, Edmund Oduro Agyei encouraged participants to remain curious, pursue their ambitions, and take advantage of opportunities in STEM fields, assuring them of continued support through future initiatives and partnerships.
The success of the programme was made possible through collaboration with key stakeholders, including the DreamOval Foundation, the Ghana Education Service, A.A Engineering, Winnemed Enterprise, Dishbasket and Liwus Catering services alongside dedicated STEM coordinators, Obuasi Secondary Technical School, parents, and community leaders.
